The New York Yankees first round draft choice, Slade Heathcott, to a contract. I can't find the terms of the deal anywhere except that he received a $2.2 million signing bonus, roughly double what was expected for a player drafted in his draft slot (27th).

My Take: you will note that the searches spike in two places, New York (where he signed), and Prairieville, LA. Prairieville is just south of Lousisiana State University (LSU). Heathcott had pledged to play for LSU, but it looks like that's out the window for them now.

And, of course, by doubling the slot money for Heathcott, the Yankees continue to pound the small market baseball teams into financial submission.
